Project Description

Located in the Lisbon district, this is currently the largest refrigerated warehouse in the country, with a refrigerated area exceeding 22,000 m², a total volume of 235,300 m³, and a cooling capacity of 3.3 MW. The installation involved the application of 50,000 m² of insulated panels, with a total piping length of 5,775 meters. The system covers controlled temperature ranges of 0–2 ºC, 2–4 ºC, and 4–6 ºC, with humidity control.

The project was developed in a BIM environment using 3D modeling in REVIT, enabling detailed visualization of the main elements of the installation, including 12 refrigeration chambers, 41 air handling units (AHUs), 6 air diffusers, and textile ducts. This approach ensured rigorous planning, cost and schedule control, and high standards of execution quality.

The machine room features a cooling capacity of 3 x 1139.5 kW, with an absorbed power of 3 x 259.5 kW and a COP of 4.39. The primary circuit uses R717 refrigerant, with an evaporation temperature of -10 ºC, while the secondary circuit operates with a 30% monopropylene glycol aqueous solution, with an inlet temperature of -4 ºC and an outlet temperature of -8 ºC.

The management system is based on Siemens technology, with programming developed by RACE, and includes remote access via web server, a main electrical panel, and nine sub-panels also designed by RACE.

The cooling towers have a heat rejection capacity of 2 x 2100 kW, with a condensation temperature of 35 ºC and an air flow rate of 48.3 m³/h.

A CO₂ UMCE 3x150BT central plant was also installed, featuring BITZER semi-hermetic compressors and an Alfa Laval plate condenser (CO₂/NH₃), operating in a subcritical regime with R744 refrigerant.

Finally, the installation includes two ice production machines with a capacity of 2 x 15,200 kg/24h, each with a nominal cooling capacity of 41 kW, operating at evaporation temperatures of -25 ºC and condensation temperatures of -5 ºC.

This project demonstrates RACE’s technical expertise in delivering large-scale refrigeration solutions, combining technological innovation, energy efficiency, and engineering precision.
