RACE has successfully completed a modernization project for the HVAC system at the Egas Moniz Building, part of the Faculty of Medicine at Santa Maria Hospital in Lisbon. The main objective of the project was to improve the building’s energy performance by replacing the existing equipment with a more efficient and sustainable HVAC solution.

The intervention included the replacement of the existing natural gas-fired boilers with new chillers/heat pumps, enabling more efficient energy use while contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions associated with the building’s HVAC operation.

In addition to upgrading the main equipment, the project also involved the replacement and modernization of pumps, piping and accessories within the primary circuit. These interventions allowed the existing infrastructure to be adapted to the new system while improving operating conditions, reliability and overall performance.

The modernization has resulted in a more efficient HVAC system, better aligned with the building’s current operational requirements. The upgraded solution promotes more rational use of energy, improves system performance and helps reduce the environmental impact associated with the building’s operation.
