RACE collaborates with ENERCON in the renovation of its industrial center in Viana do Castelo.

A global leader in the wind energy sector, with a presence in more than 30 countries, ENERCON established a modern production center for wind turbine components in Viana do Castelo. Since the company’s arrival in Portugal in 2007, RACE has been a key partner in the implementation of essential technical systems for the operation of its facilities, including ventilation, smoke extraction, technical networks (fire safety, compressed air, gas, and sanitation), electrical supply, security, and access control.

More than a decade later, RACE is once again working with ENERCON, this time on the renovation and modernization of its infrastructure. The scope of this intervention includes:

• Renovation of the HVAC installation

• Upgrade of the BMS system

• Upgrade of gas, hydraulic, and sanitation networks

• Modernization of the electrical installation

• Refurbishment of the fire safety networks

Among the main highlights is the design and installation of a new thermal plant comprising three boilers with a total capacity of around 1,050 kW, responsible for supplying heat to the air handling units of the production hall and to the mold manufacturing lines.

In addition, RACE designed and installed eight fresh air handling units with heat recovery, specifically engineered to operate in a harsh maritime environment. These units ensure a total airflow of 200,000 m³/h, providing ideal ventilation and comfort conditions across the industrial facilities.

With a strong focus on energy efficiency and smart infrastructure monitoring, a BMS system was also implemented to manage and record all energy consumption throughout the manufacturing complex, ensuring fully integrated and optimized operations from a single control station.

This renovation strengthens the partnership between RACE and ENERCON, contributing to the sustainable modernization of one of the most significant industrial hubs in Portugal’s renewable energy sector.
